disconnecting cable stops routed?

disconnecting cable stops routed?

Is it unusual that when I disconnect my connection from the back of my machine that my RIPv2 daemone in.routed stops? why?

Also is there a way to get it automatically restart when I connect the cable back into the machine?

What sort of machine / router / operating system is this problem in regards to? If it's linux / hp-ux related you may want to try a different forum.
