Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
I've this warning on my switch HP 2524 (F.05.09). The port 1 is connected to switch cisco 2950 (IOS : 12.1(12c)EA1).
W 08/01/07 15:13:30 FFI: port 1-Excessive undersized/giant packets. See help.
W 08/01/07 15:13:30 FFI: port 1-Excessive jabbering. See Help
On switch HP interface 1, I've this configuration.
Vlan1 : Untagged
Vlan6 : Tagged
Vlan8 : Tagged
Vlan10 : Tagged
Vlan200 : Tagged
On Switch Cisco, I've this configuration
switchport mode trunk
By default, vlan 1 is native vlan and mtu at 1500.
I don't see why I've this warning, if somebody has a small idea.
Thanks

Re: Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
I believe you better check the Mini-GBIC in case you connect by fiber.
Also the following link will be helpful in your troubleshooting:

Good Luck !!!

Re: Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
Just be sure you use the same duplex settings; AUTO/AUTO or 100Fdx/100Fdx. On Cisco you adjust duplex and speed in two steps.

Re: Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
Sometimes, manually configured ports can be less headache :)
Sorry for the Mini-GBIC, it should be transceiver.
Good Luck !!!

Re: Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
It seems a little odd that you would have a trunk configured on one end, but not the other.

Re: Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
I had a similar problem before, a Cisco ISR 2800 series Router connected to 3500, both are on Auto, and the Cisco ethernet interface was showing Full duplex, and on the 3500 (k.12.05) was showing half duplex, and many drops happening.
So after setting it manually on both sides to 100-full everything back to normal.
Good Luck !!!

Re: Excessive undersized/giant packets between switch HP and Cisco
I'd go with the manual config, too. There's are sometimes subtle compatibility problems between switches from different makers, that prevent the auto-negotiation from working properly.
We've also seen that sometimes switches of other brands (Nortel, Bay) have failed to communicate properly with ProCurves after the other-brand switch has been rebooted. Ports have had to be shut down and reopenened to make it all work.
As for the trunk, a Cisco trunk is just a port that tags VLANS (ie. that bundles multiple VLANS on one link).
