Issue with switch powering off after a few seconds

After coming back  from the holidays I noticed one of our battery backups had failed.  So I removed it and pluggd our switches into direct power source. We have a 3com SuperStack 4 Switch 5500G-E 24-Port that when I plug the power in it comes on for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. Could this be a power supply problem?  Any help would be appreciated. This switch handles our phones for a particular building and I can't get it powered on.
