I know that LACP is enabled by default, but is there any reason I should be using it as I am not trunking ports at these switches

Re: LACP error's
There's no reason to keep it enabled if you're not using any trunks.
The new ProCurve products such as the 4200 now have LACP disabled by default.
As a general troubleshooting method I often ask people to disable it if having any physical connection issues.

Re: LACP error's
would I be right in saying that if I have 2 ports joined as a trunk from one switch to another I need LACP enabled on those ports or is it only required when I am using an LACP trunk.

Re: LACP error's
You are right - so called dynamic LACP is enabled by default on all the ports of ProCurve devices, BUT the ports are in a passive mode of LACP, only listening LACP BPDUs.
If you like to aggregate ports into a trunk you should enable an active mode of LACP at least on one side of the physical links to be trunked.
The command is:
int 10-14 lacp active
Good luck,
Dmitry

Re: LACP error's
does LACP only have to be used with truks LACP not trunk.
ie trunk type LACP
if I am using trunk type trunk. I do not need to use LACP .
Is this correct, I think Im on the right track

Re: LACP error's
Correct.
The 2600 series switches offer two trunking alternatives:
1. LACP
2. 'Trunk (non protocol)'
See the manual at http://tinyurl.com/lugw5 , page 12-5.
Using the non-protocol type trunking will avoid the LACP delays (as LACP listens for an LACP partner) when Link comes up that others posters on this forum have reported.
