Slow Agere Win Modem

I have Win Xp, I keep up with all the updates, I have checked for an update for my modem, there isn't one as far as I can tell. i was connecting at a faster speed until just recently, don't know what happened, just slowed down. Have not installed any new programs. I have a spyware program and Norton on my computer. Could anyone please tell me how to fix this problem.Thank you for your help.

not sure what spyware program you are using but try going to www.antivirus.com (trendmicro website) and run their beta program for spyware and viruses wont interfere withanything youhave on your system. also when you say it is slow is it the connection speed or just the reaction time on the web.makes a difference

Re: Slow Agere Win Modem

Tell us why you think the modem has slowed down. Is it that the connect speed message indicate a lower figure? Or perhaps pages take longer to load?

Does the computer itself seem slower when you are not using the internet?

If you're getting a lower connect speed, you may need to get your telephone line checked - a noisy line will cause the modems to negotiate a lower speed. You could also check to make sure that your modem has been configured to dial the correct number for your ISP.

Re: Slow Agere Win Modem

My connection speed is slow, once I am off the internet my computer runs fine, it takes forever for me to do anything on the internet. I am running the beta spyware program from Microsoft.
