Activation Command Line interface for SIC-1GEC-A

As per the installation manual the SIC-1GEC-A (Part Number JG738-61001) which is two Ports, Fiber & Copper for  HPE MSR2003 Router, only one port can be activated at the time, the copper is activated by default, but the Fiber Port must execute the related command (CLI)

can anyone advise what are the related command to activate the Fiber Port ??

Re: Activation Command Line interface for SIC-1GEC-A

Hi @Aqrabawi007 !

The command is 'combo enable { copper | fiber }', so in your case it is 'combo enable fiber' under the interface's context.

Hope this helps!

Re: Activation Command Line interface for SIC-1GEC-A

Transceiver is compatible with the module, I checked it in the quickspecs. It is recognized, RX signal is not the best, but it's still above the low-level alarm threshold, so theoretically the port should go up. Sometimes speed auto-negotiation doesn't work properly over fiber links, so I suggest you to perform following procedure:

terminal monitor
system-view
interface Gig2/0
 shutdown
 speed 1000
 duplex full
 undo shutdown
return

'terminal monitor' will enable log output to the CLI (if you use console port it's enabled by default, but over SSH and Telnet you need to enable it explicitly) so check for any errors after 'undo shutdown' command.

If that won't help, I suggest you to upgrade the software of your router, because it's about 5 years old and hundreds of bugfixes and tens of new features have been introduced since then.

Re: Activation Command Line interface for SIC-1GEC-A

Upgrade: go to https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=JG411A , download MSR2000_7.10.R0809P32 (current patches category), extract IPE file from the archive. Open up release notes for this s/w - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00101876en_us , go to page 28 'Centralized devices upgrading from the CLI' and follow the procedure.

Regarding the port - I am still not convinced the issue is not in the link itself. What I can suggest you is to try the same optical link in different device (if possible, of course) and check if it will work there. But anyways, the upgrade is something that you need to do.

Re: Activation Command Line interface for SIC-1GEC-A

If copper cable is unplugged from this port and all you have there is that transceiver, you can't really do much instead of trying fixed speed negotiation which you already did.

Then it's time to check the quality of your line and/or ability of other devices to establish the link over this line. I'd say that RX power lelel of -14 dBm is absolutely not the best I've seen with these adapters, normally it doesn't fall below -10 dBm, but of course it depends on the actual distance.
