Can I used sun Exabyte 8500 ...

All,
My hpux does not have a tape drive and I need to take an ignite-ux image for it. Can I use sun exabyte 8500 series tape drive with hpux? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the "sun exabyte 8500 series". If it's SCSI of the proper flavor (i.e. F/W vs SE and LVD vs HVD) that matches the adapters available on your server, yes you can use it, but you want to very sure of the match, mixing HVD and LVD can cause serious damage to adapters and the hardware itself.

Is this an 8mm drive? If it is, then you may be able to write the make_tape_recovery tape, but you may not be able to boot from it.

I tried using an 8mm for a make_recovery tape 3 or 4 years ago and it DID create the tape, but when I tried to boot from it, it wouldn't boot.

Things may have changed, but don't be surprised if you see the same thing I did.

It may work depend up on the SCSI type and your server hardware compatibility. These are the supported hardwares:

And software:
