Could not install MirrorDisk/UX from App CD1 : no such product

Hello Dear HPUX gurus,

I am a SUN/Solaris expert that decided recently to start learning HPUX too. I organized HP9000 J210 server and installed HPUX 11.00 :

# uname -a
HP-UX hpux B.11.00 A 9000/770 2004625608 two-user license
#

I want to start playing with LVM mirroring, I know that I have install addition software from "HPUX 11.0 Application Software" CD1 called MirrorDisk.

I put CD in and mounted it under /mnt. If I run swlist againts /mnt - it shows me a long list of bundles resided on CD (please see attachment). By piping it through grep - I could see bundles B2491BA and B5403BA that contains needed soft (see again attachment).

First question - what is difference between these two, since their descriptions look the same?

If I run "swlist -l product" against bundle B2491BA - I could see product LVM included into that bundle (please refer to attachment again).

But when I try to install it by using different combinations like "swinstall -s /mnt LVM", "swinstall -s /mnt B2491BA.LVM" - it always says that such product wasn't found in /mnt :(( (check attached file again)??

What's the problem? Is it a codeword issue? I checked file "CD_TABLE_OF_CONTENTS" and it says "CodeWord Req: No" for these product..

Yes,

Mirror Disk is licensed and you need a codeword.

This is a product you need to pay for and it won't work until you add a valid license key for it. There is an option within swinstall somewhere to add these keys.

You will need a codeword for MirrorDisk, you won't see the product in a swinstall session until it is unlocked with the codeword.

B5403 is the MirrorDisk product for Workstations but it is actually the same as B2491.

B2491BA for servers, this is the product which would require a licensed codeword for the installation.

B5403BA is for the workstations

you can check

http://licensing.hp.com

If the product was already installed on the machine then the codeword would be there at
/var/adm/sw/.codewords

Before I start assigning points ;) - just one more questions : how to find out if the codeword is needed or not? As I said my "CD_TABLE_OF_CONTENTS" says the following regarding that bundle :

CPL Product: B2491BA
Codeword Req.: No
Size: 5922752
Description:
MirrorDisk/UX

so should I trust that file in future? If not - what is a rule of thumb?

What is the CD number - if I've got the same CD I'll check mine

The "HP-UX 11.00 Application CD" has a label "CD part 5011-7864" dated Sep 2000.

Anyway, thanks a lot to everyone responded! I guess I could find out these codeword, since that servers was bought with such licenses and used as spare on.

as a rule of thumb: drivers are for free, e.g. if you buy a quad port lan card you just need that, also HP manufactured application SW of otherwise free software is for free (Apache, Samba, etc). Ignite is for free.

Acutally, you can visit http://software.hp.com and do a bit of searching.

Most other SW is licensed, however, fyi often you can install a 60-day trial version (e.g. Data Protector or Glance or PRM).

It'll return something like:
9000/777/C110
or
9000/889/K460

S800 series is for server and S700 series is for workstation. I believe J210 is a workstation.

I'm not sure about the Codeword Req for B2491BA, but could you please check the Codeword Req for B5403BA from CD_TABLE_OF_CONTENTS?

If u goto the directory (where CD rom is mounted)u can see the productfile B24291BA. But this will not list if u select this source through swinstall.

You can watch the software mirror disk ux in swinstall windows only after adding the codeword.
