HBA & Multipathing - RHEL4
I'm running RHEL4 on a couple of "BL20p G3" and noticed that when I upgrade to the latest kernel I'm no longer able to run the hp_qlaxxx*.rpm in order to create the proper module against the new kernel.
After investigating for a while it seems that HP no longer supports this rpm (the one for the QLogic card) and suggests to use the driver that comes built-in on the latest kernels. For the multipath part (which was previously done by the QLogic driver itself) now what's suggested is:
1- install the device-mapper-multipath pacakge
or
2- install HPDMmultipath (Device Mapper Multipath Enablement Kit for HP)
I tried the last option but couldn't make it work (I kept getting all the paths). I admit I didn't spend much time with it.
The last thing I tried was to go directly to the Qlogic site and grabbed the driver for our card. The package contains the rpm which is very similar to the one HP provided. This seemed to work.
I just would like to know what you guys are doing with the current situation. Are you using the built-in HBA driver that comes with the kernel or are you still using the QLogic driver? Any downsides to this?
Thanks,
Jorge

Re: HBA & Multipathing - RHEL4
You are using the HP qla drivers that ship with PSP (Proliant Service Pack).
You need a new version of PSP. These things are matched to kernel you are booting and the update broke the functionality, by causing a version mismatch.
