Re: ignite software

Hi:

Ignite software is compatible with all PA-RISC machines.

The installation of Ignite does *not* require a reboot, and takes just a few minutes to install with 'swinstall' once it has been downloaded.

You can obtain current software and documentation here:

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html

Once installed, you can create an Ignite recovery tape comprising your vg00 volume with:

# make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Regards!

Re: ignite software

matteo,

ignite will allow you to do a make_net_recovery to another machine, but I'm not to sure about the use of a dlt, because on a local host with a dlt you can not boot from it, but then again it could work?

As far as "backing" your system up, I'd suggest using "fbackup/frecover" to the other machine with the dlt.

Re: ignite software

Hi,

local backup on DAT or DLT is very easy (James already gave you an example). You will be able to boot from the Ignite tape, and recover your system.

Creating a backup on a (Ignite) sever is also possible. After a system disaster you can boot from the Ignite server, and recover your system, but this setup is a little more complex ;-)

Thierry.

Take a look at the ignite faq,

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/faq.html

And you can download ignite from this link,

Hope this helps.
