Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

I sure do, it is freely downloadable and called
HP PRINTER installer.

HERE is a URL that will help.

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

Use jetdirect, its the same horse under a different name. Main difference is you start it with hppi rather than jetadmin. I usually put a link in /usr/bin linking jetadmin to hppi and it works with either command....

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

Since I am an old guy I sometimes create symbolic links to old names of commands:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root sys 19 May 5 15:37 /bin/jetadmin -> /opt/hpnpl/bin/hppi

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

Jetadmin is no longer supported by hp. It has been replaced with JetDirect.

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

This product replaces the software end of jetadmin and works with the jetadmin hardware.

Top notch organization, software isn't world class but its good enough depending on your needs.

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

Download the HP11e134.SD from the site listed by Paul S. If you're currently using the older version of JetAdmin, and all your printers are configured with it, then after installing the new software create a symbolic link /opt/hpnp -> /opt/hpnpl

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

I called HP with a printing issue last week nad they told me that jetadmin was a "best effort" support now.... and that hppi was the new program.... I"m assuming that the programs mentioned above earlier was the whole name.

Re: replacement sw for Jetadmin

JetAdmin has been obsolete since late 1999. It is NOT Y2K compliant and there is no support for it. HPPI (HP Printer Installer) is the replacement. Both JetAdmin and HPPI have the addqueue and removequeue commands so adding new printers is a very simple command (no menu needed). Once HPPI is installed, /etc/PATH will be updated with /opt/hpnpl/bin so these commands will run with just the command name.
