HPE Telco RAN Automation accelerating openness with IS-Wireless Open RAN solution
HPE Telco RAN Automation, which was announced as generally available on Jan 24, 2023, is a pre-integrated RAN Service Management & Orchestration (SMO) platform enabling multi-vendor full-stack v/O-RAN zero-touch rollout and lifecycle management from infra to radio elements.
To help customers accelerate their v/O-RAN adoption journey and simplify system integration, HPE is partnering with a variety of innovative RAN software vendors to pre-integrate their vDU/vCU software. This ensures that O-Cloud setup and configuration can be performed according to their specifications, utilizing management interfaces including standardized O-RAN interfaces where available; validating the solution for initial rollout automation and ongoing lifecycle management. The goal is the provide a ready-to-use catalogue of pre-integrated RAN software without requiring complex system integration every time a customer needs to rollout a new RAN vendor or swap an existing one.
To this end, HPE is working closely with IS-Wireless to validate their O-RAN software with HPE Telco RAN Automation.
IS-Wireless develops and delivers 3GPP compliant 5G and 4G RAN solutions
The company is a proponent of Open RAN and a member of the ORAN alliance and TIP (Telecom Infra Project). IS-Wirelessโ LiquidRANโข is a new class of cloud-native, highly disaggregated RAN that runs on any computing resources and supports any ORAN functional split. IS-Wireless has been recognized as one of a few European RAN vendors by leading telco operators including Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telecom Italia (TIM), Telefรณnica and Vodafone in their November 2021 report โBUILDING AN OPEN RAN ECOSYSTEM FOR EUROPEโ.
For this purpose, HPE and IS-Wireless have built a joint lab where work is underway to onboard/integrate IS-Wireless O-RAN SW on HPEโs RAN workload optimized server, the HPE ProLiant DL110 and integrate with HPE Telco RAN Automation for lifecycle management using ORAN interfaces.
As a first step, IS-Wireless has been made available as a validated vDU/vCU software in the HPE Telco RAN Automation RAN SW catalogue. IS-Wireless software can be automatically instantiated, configured, and connected with Radio elements and Core as a pre-built orchestration workflow. The integrated solution will be demonstrated at HPEโs booth at the Open RAN World Forum in Berlin on 26th April 2023.
In order to offer a fully O-RAN compliant solution to the market, HPE and IS-Wireless will continue to collaborate to build support for O-RAN interfaces specifically O1 and A1 in next phases. This will help CSPs fast-track their v/O-RAN deployment using multi-vendor components and standardized interfaces with minimum system integration effort while achieving the goals of openness and innovation.
Why HPE?
As a market leader in OSS/Network Automation and workload-optimized Telco infrastructure, HPE provides the safest investment for mobile operators to achieve the lowest TCO and fastest time-to-market for the Open RAN. Thanks to our proven track record and rich set of products and services that are designed from the ground up to serve the needs of v/O-RAN, HPE is best positioned to help our customers achieve the full benefits of investments in the 5G network.
