Hi We've got a ProLiant DL360 G7 running SLES11 SP1 which has an NC550SFP card. The driver we're running on the card is be2net v2.103.269.28 The problem is that the card is dropping packets: Kernel Interface table Iface MTU Met RX-OK RX-ERR RX-DRP RX-OVR TX-OK TX-ERR TX-DRP TX-OVR Flg bond0 1500 0 14463278 0 0 0 3120723 0 0 0 BMmRU eth4 1500 0 23200257 0 133497 0 2276 0 0 0 BMRU eth5 1500 0 22764816 0 125211 0 2239 0 0 0 BMRU Normally, this is resolved by increasing the ring buffer size. However, with this card, the ethtool command isn't supported # ethtool -G eth4 rx 2048 Cannot set device ring parameters: Operation not supported So, the suppliers suggested passing the value as a parameter to the insmod command, like this: # insmod ./be2net.ko rx_frag_size=8192 That appears to have been accepted: # cat /sys/bus/pci/drivers/be2net/module/parameters/rx_frag_size 8192 However, the drops are still occurring. Hi I have a number of blades running SLES10 and they do not resolve the hostname of an IP address when creating the accounting records in the /var/run/utmp and /var/log/wtmp files. So, for example, when I type who, I see only IP addresses and not hostnames. utmpdump also show only IP addresses for the utmp file. Any ideas where this lookup occurs? I guess it's part of the login process and thought it may be a setting from the /etc/login.defs file, but couldn't see anything obvious in there. Thanks and Regards Mike ... View more

All I appreciate that you don't need to restart the O/S after making an update using the sysctl command. However, is it necessary for any processes to be restarted to pick up the new value? For example, if I change tcp_syn_retries from 5 to 50, will that affect all processes or would they need to be stopped and started again? Cheers Mike ... View more

All I have installed a new kernel version which generates some new error messages on startup. HP have recommended I disable ACPI in GRUB. They assure me that this won't have any impact on SIM or the ILO. However, does anyone know what the impact will be? Do I lose any kind of functionality by doing this? All I'm considering doing a linux kernel upgrade from 2.6.16.21-0.8 to SLES 10.0 2.6.16.60-0.33. Currently running PSP for SLES 10 (x86_64) V 8.11. Are there any considerations or gotchas I need to consider before upgrading? The reason I'm asking this, is I noted there's a new version of cpq_cciss out, and the notes state that it only supports a limited number of kernels (not including 2.6.16.60-0.33). Hi I'd like to configure multiple ntp sources on a Brocade switch but can't seem to get the format of the command right. This works fine tsclockserver x.x.x.x However, if I issue the following command tsclockserver x.x.x.1 x.x.x.2 Then the tsclockserver command shows Active NTP Server x.x.x.1 Configured NTP Server List x.x.x1 No mention of x.x.x.2 Any ideas?
