The MVA is not needed but in order too keep the communication Hub <-> Spoke instead of Spoke <-> Spoke the MVA is required? Having the MVA in the Hub Site and the OVCs in the Spoke sites it would prevent the need for the Spoke site OVCs to communicate between each other and instead synchronize the federation via the MVA?. My idea here is to prevent or minimize traffic between the different-cluster OVCs as they are located in different countries. Ans: Yes, we understand your concept on the Hub and Spoke communications. However, still the MVA is recommended to be used in a Federation where there are more than 32 nodes. The HUB OVC is capable enough to handle the communication between the Spokes' OVCs. 2. You might see other status as "Unknown" for a template and powered off VMs which is fine. Once all the VMs are in Storage HA sync. Run the above command on OVC-1. When did the issue occur ? 3. Was there any changes made to the Federation before the issue could occur ? 4. You have said that the VMware clone is working fine. Does the SimpliVity Clone work fine ? 5. Do we have problem only while taking the VM backup. Does other SimpliVity Features work fine ? 6. Is the issue noticed on particular VM/s or on all the VMs ? 7. Have you tried taking the VM back up using CLI ? Does the issue persist even when a backup is taken using CLI ?  8. Below is the command to run on the OVC CLI: svt-vm-backup --datastore datastore-name --vm vm-name --name backup-name --appconsistent --datacenter datacenter-name --cluster cluster-name --destination datacenter_name     Note: If the backup works fine on CLI. The peer managed federation is now becoming a pain to maintain as the nodes need to communicate and maintain the federation, but the network topology policy does not easily permit it. My first question is, how do I move it to a centrally managed federation. Would just a simple deployment of the MVA suffice? If so does it mean that, as a centrally managed federation is set up, that the peer-to-peer communication is no longer needed? As from what I can read it may still be needed but only if the MVA fails. Ans. The MVA is recommended to be used in a Federation only when the Federation consists of 32 and more nodes. For 8 cluster x 2 nodes = 16 nodes, a MVA is not needed. Then the existing SimpliVity nodes must be healthy. 2. Check the model of the SimpliVity node if it can be deployed in an existing cluster because if the SimpliVity nodes you are trying to deploy are of different model then you may not be able to deploy them in a same cluster. You may have to create a new cluster and deploy.
