I am currently facing a scenario where an existing HPE SimpliVity setup, hosting several hundred virtual machines (VMs), needs to be transitioned to a standard VMware setup. The replacement hardware consists of HPE DL 360 servers and an HPE Alletra MP iSCSI storage solution. In the new cluster, we plan to deploy VMware Foundation with a vCenter and ESXi. To achieve this migration, we are exploring two potential approaches: Veeam Backup & Replication: Leveraging the existing Veeam solution, we can directly migrate VMs from the SimpliVity vCenter to the new VMware vCenter using Veeam Replicate. Migration Host: Alternatively, we could designate a specific host within either the old SimpliVity or new VMWare cluster as a dedicated “migration host.” However, it’s important to note that this approach may have limitations regarding the presentation of storage between SimpliVity and VMware. I would greatly appreciate insights from anyone who has encountered a similar case or has experience with such migrations. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Regards, Johan Johan
