Hello to everyone, I have an 1820 Layer 2 switch and I have the pfsense firewall installed on the Dell r720 server. I have 3-5 servers in my topology, this is a small business.
I want to manage these servers via pfsense firewall.
How should be my switch config, could you help me?
Using native vlan is enough?
I used before layer 3 switchers i dont have any experience with L2 switch in order to use firewall.
The server with Pfsense has 2 interfaces, one for wan and the other for Lan.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: hp 1820 L2 initial configuration for pfsense firewall
Hello @okosif !
If you don't know what to do, just keep using one native VLAN for the LAN segment, keep all hosts in that VLAN and let the firewall to be DHCP server, router, NAT, security etc. So, just connect your servers to the switch, connect LAN interface of the FW to the same switch too and it should work, as the switch will be transparrent for the traffic between servers and the FW.

Hello @Ivan_B ,
Thanks for reply, ─▒ hope you're doing well.
This is my thinking on topology.
I want to know your thinking about that.
is it gonna work or not ?

SolutionHi @okosif !
Perfect example of 'let's keep things simple' methodology. For such a small network it looks absolutely fine. Untagged Access ports in VLAN10 facing servers and tagged VLAN10 on the uplink to match the sub-interface on the FW. Looks good to me.
