Hello Guys,
I have got a HP V1910-48G JE009A on my desk without any credentials.
This switch needs te be set to factory defaults.
Steps I took so far;
- Connect switch cable to COM
- Open Putty on COM 38400 – 8 – 1 – N
- Powercycle the switch
- Press Ctrl-B at boot to enter extended boot menu
- 7. Skip current system configuration
- 0. Reboot
After reboot I did the following:
- Press Ctrl-B at boot to enter extended boot menu
- 5. Restore to factory default configuration
Switch here tells me:
Password recovery capability is enabled. To perform this operation, first disable the password recovery capability using the undo password-recovery enable command in CLI.
How should I go about this? Can I access CLI without any login credentials?
Any help or advice is appriciated.
Regards, René.

Re: HP V1910-48G JE009A Factory reset - Password recovery capability enabled.
If your HPE OfficeConnect 1910-48G (JE009A) has been reverted by you to its default...why do you think your Switch hasn't (at least) the local admin user configured by default?
That default admin user has for sure no password set yet...so you should be able to Login into the Switch CLI (via Telnet) because you have full credentials to do so (Login: admin Password: None)...and then you will be able to execute the undo password-recovery enable command only once you entered the system-view mode (that's another story).
It should work that way.
I'm not an HPE Employee

SolutionFound a working solution in this case.
Stumbled on a post through google that stated to connect port 1 & 2 of the swtich.
Then power it on, and leave it on for about 5 minutes.
As I thought this was bollocks but just figured I had time to test it.
So I did, after 5 minutes, nothing happened.
Ohww well, lets try for about an hour.
- Forgot about the switch as I was working on something else-
Long story short, had port 1 & 2 connected for about 2,5 hours.
Connected the swtich, could do the reset / initialize command, and the switch is back on.... Go figure....
Anyways, it worked for me, thought I might post it to help someone else in the future.
Regards René.

SOLVED!
SOLVED ALSO (NO WAIT)!
Just wanted to reply and say that I had the exact same issue, and what I did was go through steps 7, reboot, then I tried option 5 and got same error, so I did another 7 and rebooted and this time allowed it too boot all of the way in and expanded main flash file and it dropped to <HP> prompt (see printscreen).
From here you can hit ? to get a list of commands, one of them being initialize, this factory resets it and I was able to get in using admin with blank password.
