Spanning tree problem - HP 1920 24G-POE

Hi all,

Hope you can help! We have one HP 1920 connected to a Dell Sonicwall TZ 300 on HP port 1. HP port 2 to connected to a Cisco switch (external network provider). 

The external network provider has advised us to disable STP on our HP switch. This is the log they provided us with:-

Jul 19 12:46:38.940 BST: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_BPDUGUARD: Received BPDU on port Fa0/10 with BPDU Guard enabled. Disabling port.

Spanning tree needs to be turned off.

 When our switches detect BPDUs it switches off for a short period before recovering automatically – it will then await the next BPDU.

 These are being detected on your router’s LAN port (for the wireless bridge) not your WAN port (for the broadband).

We have turned off STP globally but yet the port still gets disabled on their switch. We are not sure if this is caused by the Sonicwall either.

The current config on the HP switch is - STP off globally, BPDU off globally, No Loop Protection.

Your external network priovider should be able to configure BPDU filter on fa0/10 which will just discard any BPDU's they are receiving.

There is no need, nor should you, disable STP globally on your network.
