Breaking a Raid 1 mirrored set of drives
I have a ML 150 G2 series server. I have been getting error logs and in the Adaptec Management software I have a SMART error on drive 0. I have submitted the problem to HP and they sent out a new drive to rectify the problem. When I initially setup the server I used the Bios to create the Raid 1 Mirror for the two drives that are in the server. How do I break the mirror correctly so that I will not lose any data? I know a good backup is in order, but the time constraint I have is not so forgiving. Do you have docs on the correct procedure to break the mirror through the bios configuration utility?

Re: Breaking a Raid 1 mirrored set of drives
HI Joe,
To my knowlidge a raid1 does not need to be broken, it is set to keep all the date if one drive fails, so if you remove the damaged one and replace it with the new drive it should replicate automicly to the new drive, if the drives are hotswapable it ca nbe done when the system is running.
Have a nice day,
HTH, Ronald

Re: Breaking a Raid 1 mirrored set of drives
Breking the mirror is needed when you run software mirror.
As far i know, is not necessary when you run hardware mirror. Just replace the disk.
