dcpromo failure
I currently have a Windows 2003 Member Server which I want
to promote to a DC. Since this server is over the WAN I
am running dcpromo /adv and pointing the wizard to the
restored System State on the local hard drive.
Dcpromo appears to go through OK - it finishes, says it's
now a DC, even adds the server to the correct site -
however, it does say it reported errors and I should check
the log.
After checking dcpromo.log the only [ERROR] message that
appears is right at the end and it says:
[ERROR] Setting security on server files failed with 1208.
What I would usually do after I'd run dcpromo is to
install DNS but this fails with "cannot copy file
dnsperf.h" - tried various locations and CD's but still
get the same error.
This MUST be tied to the dcpromo failure but I'm all out
of ideas? Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Re: dcpromo failure
To fix the problem:
1. Open a CMD prompt.
2. Type esentutl /p %SystemRoot%\security\database\secedit.sdb /v /x and press Enter.
3. Type Del /q %SystemRoot%\security\Edb.log and press Enter.
4. Type Del /q %SystemRoot%\security\Edb0*.log and press Enter.
5. Rerun DCpromo.exe.
