Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

We have a couple of ML330 G3 servers that have Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition installed as the original operating system. Both are rapidly running out of room on the original 10GB boot partition, but plenty of space left on other drives. Is there ANY product or procedure out there that can safely expand the boot partition on these boxes? Thanks for any definitive answer anyone can provide.

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

Thank you James for a prompt reply. I had seen this article, but it gives me the impression that since we are already running Server 2003, not upgrading, it might not apply. Is is possible then to follow this procedure after the Server 2003 operating system has already been installed and running on the box for some time?

Truly, thanks so much. I couldn't follow the second of the two links, but that first one was the clear and complete answer I was looking for.

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

Hi James, don't worry, this problem is easy, as I get out of this trouble quickly after I used easeus partition master.

You need to shrink other partitions and get some unallocated space, move the partitions rightwards, and then expand the system partition with the unallocated space. You can drag and move on the disk map, very easy.So you can expand the system partition without reformat

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

It is easy to expand Server 2003 boot partition with partition software.

Server 2003 disk management doesn't have shrink and extend feature, so the Server partition software is helpful.

Before expanding or resizing partitions, remember to backup the files.

Follow the step by step guide to expand Server 2003 boot partition.

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

The information tommyli shared, I have visited, really helped me and the resource is excellent.
Extend partition can not be realized by built-in disk management perfectly, so, it is sensible to choose the 3rd software to finish the operation.
Fortunately, I have found the directly method to solve your problem through tommyli.
Extend partition can be worked flawlessly.

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

If there is no free space on WIndows Server boot partition, you'd better expand the partition as soon as possible. Otherwise, it may cause system crash.

There are many products that can resize or expand the Server boot partition, for example, acronis disk director server 10, partition wizard, partition assistant, etc.

See the detailed steps how to resize boot partition on Server 2003:

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

you may try diskpart that is free and provides by Windows, but there are many disadvantages.

There are many third party partition software, for example, paragon, acornis dd, easeus, wizard, assistant, etc.

I've tried partition magic server, which is easy to use and works fast. As my system partition is NTFS, it helps me extend the partition without reboot UNDER WINDOWS, great, I remmond this. See this guide:http://www.partition-magic-server.com/extend-partition/extend-system-partition-windows-2003-server.html

Re: Expand Server 2003 Boot Partition?

Hey guys, I've read this post before, just want to share my experience.

Our 2003 enterprise also runs out of space, after searching by google and read many posts and articles, I know we can shrink other data partitions and extend the c drive, no need to delete or format partitions.

I've tried, oh, I cannot believe how easy it is to operate, just drag and move on the disk map to extend the boot partitions, complete within several minutes, great.

see this http://www.partition-magic-server.com/extend-partition/extend-boot-partition-server-2003.html hope it could help others.
