FTP in windows 2003 Server

I installed FTP service on a windows 2003 box and that time it prompted me for a reboot ,but when I did the same for some other win 2003 box it didnt ask for reboot.May I know what is the reason behind this ,why it didnt ask for reboot for the second server.

Re: FTP in windows 2003 Server

I did this long back ,I am sure about OS (win 2003 enterprise edition SP2) not about version. So if there is any deviation in the version then will it ask for reboot ?Explain like in which state it will ask for reboot.

Re: FTP in windows 2003 Server

Hi Suresh,

You can check for the System log at eventvwr.exe
Check for the events that come right before Event ID 6006. Compare these with the other server's.
As Michal indicated above, check for any event IDs #18.
Checking these may give you a hint as to why the 1st box didn't prompt for a reboot and the 2nd one did.

Hope it helps.

Re: FTP in windows 2003 Server

Just so you know, the only conditions I can think of -that could cause a reboot other that Windows Updates- would be:
- ASR
- BSOD
- Temperature issues as set up at System Management Homepage (for HP servers).

Regards.
