Install Windows Server 2003 R2 in DL320

Hy,

I try to install win2003 R2 in an DL320 with SmartStart, but it don't identify the software CDs. The CDs are DVDs from MSDN Subscription. I tried to burn the ISO images, but either work.

Hi,

I don't think you can perform an assisted SmartStart installation using the MSDN DVDs. SmartStart won't recognise them, I think it will only accept Retail or Volume License CDs. If the DVD is bootable, try that to see if you can install the OS. Then you can apply the ProLiant Support Pack after Windows is installed.

Hy Stephen,

If attempt to install Windows 2003 manually, appears to me a blue screen with ├в BAD POOL HEADER├в when initiating Windows from the hard disk. For that reason I tried to install with SmartStart. I have read the previous messages, but nonencounter nothing solution.

Thanks

Whenever installing Windows it's important to have the correct disk controller driver for the boot disk loaded first.

I think you can get these either from Smartstart CD or www.hp.com (click on drivers and search for DL320) Check that the firmware is the latest also.

When setup starts press F6 before the autodetection of the storage controllers start and supply the driver. After that autodetection and setup continues.

Cheers,

Hello,

The problem seems, indeed, the driver of the hard disk. But I do not have floppy disk.

I can do something without floppy? or I have to buy one?

Re: Install Windows Server 2003 R2 in DL320

Hi:

In this day and age, it's a good idea to have a USB floppy drive for such occasions. Another option would be to burn the driver to a CD/DVD and, when prompted, remove the OS CD/DVD, and insert the driver, then re-insert the OS after the driver has been copied.

Make a great day!

Re: Install Windows Server 2003 R2 in DL320

One word of caution when upgrading Active Directory from Windows 2000 to 2003r2.
Our AD errored out on upgrading. We were suppose to upgrade AD from 2000 to 2003 then to 2003r2. We had uninstall the 2003r2 and install 2003 to get Active Directory to run but ran out of time and patience (with MS) and are running Server 2003.
Good Luck

Re: Install Windows Server 2003 R2 in DL320

Hello, The server is run.
The steps have been:
1 - Unload the CD images from MSDN.
2 - Use SmartStart with the new CDs.
3 - Install in a small partition (20 MB).

With these steps the installation has ended correctly.

Thanks to all

PS.
The AD problem 2003 to 2003R2 is solved with ADPREP in CD2. NO ADPREP in CD1.
