Installation of MS SQL2000 EE

Hi,

I'm trying to install MS SQL2000 EE into a win2k3 server. When I run the autorun file, system keep prompting me "ntvdm.exe hard error". When i try to run the setup.bat file, it prompt me the local admin directory not found. Anyone knows what is the problem?

Thanks.

Re: Installation of MS SQL2000 EE

Which windows 2003 server edition you use ?
Do you have sp1 for windows 2003 installed?
Do you tried to run setup.bat when you log in as local administrator?
Can you post exact error message (message that you have after you run setup.bat)?

Regarding ntvdm.exe hard error - ntvdm related to 16-bit applications, so it is strange you have this error. Many viruses/mailware use ntvdm - do you have antivirus software updated on this server?

Re: Installation of MS SQL2000 EE

Hi Igor,

The OS is already in SP1. I've tried to run installation after removing the NAV from the server but still the same problem.

Attached is the error message that I've got when run the setup.bat file. I'm running it using the local administrator account already but do not know why I'm getting this error.

Re: Installation of MS SQL2000 EE

Danny:

I wonder if someone has not already tried to install SQL2kEE but partially deleted it. You can check the hard drive first to see if it's available. Another way to check is to look at what snap-ins are available in the MMC.

1) To run the MMC (Microsoft Management Console), open a cmd window and type mmc.

2) Go to File and then choose Add/Remove Snap-in. You'll see a dialog box when you can click Add. Click Add

3) You will see a list of MMC snap-ins. If Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager is an available snap-in, it's means it's been installed. Add it to your mmc and attempt to change the SA password.

Also see:

What may be happening is you already have SQL installed and are being prevented from over-installing a current installation.

Report back to the forum and let everyone know how it's going.

Good luck.

Re: Installation of MS SQL2000 EE

Hi Everyone,

None of this work. I finally give up and re-install the OS again. This time, i install MSSQL immediately after the OS installation. It works fine. I really wonder what is the problem before. Thanks for all your help.
