monitor number of AD lookups

is there any way i can monitor the number of windows AD lookups by users?

e.g. if there is a user logging in, AD server will authenticate the user.
if he is accessing a resource on a shared drive of a file server, AD will be lookup again if the password is not cached.
is there any way i can monitor the AD performance and lookups?
