Network

I have a Dell PowerEdge SC1600 wink2 with 7 clients. I just bought another Dell PowerEdge 1800 windows 2003. Can I let the new one running together with the SC1600 along with 7 clients? I need to build the new server exactly the same with the SC1600 one in order to take the 1800 to production and to put 1600 as development server. If yes, please advise me. Is there a way to copy the setup on 1600 to 1800? I appreciate your input to help me.

Thanks,
Tracy

Re: Network

Hello Tracy again,

Yes, you can leave the Win2K and the Win2K3 up and running as long you setup different domain names.
Depends on your AD design, more details will help us help you.

However, if your Win2k is an Active Directory then you can promote the Win2K3 using the DCPROMO command and then use ADMT to migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003:

I noticed that you didn't reply to your thread "Installation"? Did the installation went through without issues?
Would you mind to keep us updated and please consider assigning points, for this will help you to get a faster support in the future.

Thanks and please keep us updated

Before upgrading, consider reading this:

Re: Network

Hi Roger,

Tracy is not planning to upgrade but she wants to migrate the current setup of Windows 2000 that is install in her old server PowerEdge 1600 to the new server PowerEdge 1800 Windows 2003.
ADMT 2.0 is the tool she needs for the migration. I'm thinking the FSMO rules too?

Tracy,

As far as I'm concern when we got our PowerEdge Server, it came pre-loaded with Windows 2000 Server and all what we did was to finish up the mini setup and setup the Server as an AD Domain Controller. We ordered the Server with the RAID 5 software. So you should not worry about the RAID 5 setup. Call Dell or look at the Specs sheet they sent you if you have it to find out if the Server came with a RAID 5 software or Hardware?

Come back for any questions please
Thanks
