Re: pcix 166 network card

It sounds like the network card is not suported for you server model.

Re: pcix 166 network card

Hi:

You mention PCI-X 166 but that NIC will only work up to 133 MHz (Bus: 32-/64-bit, 33/66 MHz PCI; 32-/64-bit, 33/66/100/133 MHz PCI-X)

This card was released prior to the existence of Windows 2003. There is however a driver for Windows 2003 (3C996_7_43_0_0.exe) available here:

Re: pcix 166 network card

Hi Roger,
Thanks for your response
A correction the network card, it is a PCiX 133 3com/Broadcom Technonlogy Alliance and the chip is BCM5701TKHB. TS0235 P13. 64872 C. with the board marked 3C996B-T 03-0320-000 Rev A4. Pulse H5007 0242-J china.

Each time i slot the NIC,in the HP ML370 G4 server and in the right slot. Am receiving the following error at POST time "AN UNSUPPORTED PCI CARD DETECTED SYSTEM HALTED PLEASE REMOVE.."
The card works fine on the the desk tops with windows xp, except for the HP ML 370 servers.
i have tried placing it in different slots but it hasn't worked.
i have upgraded the server with updated firmware but nothing has worked either.

Re: pcix 166 network card

chileshe:

I think this is the problem:

According to 3COM these are the specs for the NIC:

Feature Specification
PC-X clock 133 MHz max
PCI clock 66 MHz max
PCI Data/Address 32 bit and 64 bit
PCI data burst transfer rate 132 Mbps (32-bit bus)
264 Mbps (64-bit bus)
528 Mbps (64-bit bus at 66 MHz)
PCI modes Master/slave
10/100/1000BASE-T 10/100/1000 Mbps (full duplex)
Dimension Measurement
Length 17.3 cm (6.8 in.)
Width 6.4 cm (2.5 in.)
Specification Measurement
Operating voltage +5 V ± 5%
Power consumption 10 Watts
2 A @ +5 VDC

Notice the Operating Voltage is +5 volts.

The specs for the ML370 G4 PCI-X slots are as follows:

(I had to attach a file because of formatting constraints. The jist of it is that the slots are 3.3 volts ONLY).
