Preparing for 2003 SP1

I am working on a ML 570 with dual processors, 2 GB of RAM, and Smart Array 5302/128 controller.

Our last attempt at installing SP1 failed, resulting a infinite reboot loop.

Upon reading further it is apparent that several steps should be taken prior to installing SP1 on this machine.

My questions are:
What order should the following be done in?
Does one item on the list effectively accomplish another item?
Are there any we are forgetting?

1. Install newest proliant service pack
2. Flash controller card with newest ROM
3. Flash motherboard with newest ROM
4. Use newest SmartStart utilities

Thank You.

Re: Preparing for 2003 SP1

Hi,
Your plan is good, but you don't need step 4 - SmartStart used only when you install OS for "fresh" server and from your post I understand you install SP1 for existing windows 2003 installation.
Probably after firmware update for SmartArray 5302 controller you will have POST message that you need to do SCSI drives firmware upgrade.
You can use Firmware Maintenance CD 7.40
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23331.html
for SCSI drives firmware update. It is good idea to update SCSI drives firmware even if you don't have POST message.
Make sure you have good backup.

Hi, I cannot tell you what you are asking because I really don´t know but an advice that I can give to you is this: Read carefully the documentation about the SP1 for W2K3 because it has several issues. Some that are really annoying.
