Problems with Veritas BE 9.1 and win2k3 SP1

I applied SP1 to my existing win2k3 server, which is running Backup Exec v9.1. My daily backup jobs failed to run. I had to get this server back online right away, so I just uninstalled SP1, all is well.

Any known issues with SP1 and BE 9.1?

Thanks for any info.

Re: Problems with Veritas BE 9.1 and win2k3 SP1

Jay,

According to the following Veritas document, Veritas BE 9.1 has not been tested with Windows 2003 SP1?

Meanwhile, I'd like to know what is in the log file of the failed job? Is there any error mesg, usually HEX with some numbers?

Hi Latif,

(This could be a Dell issue, rather than BE.)

Here is the info I should have included in my original post:

Re: Problems with Veritas BE 9.1 and win2k3 SP1

SP1 ingrains features similar to XP SP2.

What "might" be happening, is that BackupExec is being blocked. You could either implicitly allow BackupExec by adding the EXE file in the "exceptions" area, or schedule a job that will run in a few minutes, so that you could "un-block" when prompted.

Just a thought.

Re: Problems with Veritas BE 9.1 and win2k3 SP1

Jay,

I agree with Jon that its a problem with the SP1 not Dell because of what you said in your first post *** I had to get this server back online right away, so I just uninstalled SP1, all is well ***

Also, check to see if any of the services that are installed by 2003 SP1 is conflicting with BE services by stopping a service and then just run a backup...and so on with other services.

Re: Problems with Veritas BE 9.1 and win2k3 SP1

Thanks, both.

I will try to install SP1 again in a month or two. There will be a break between semesters which will not be too disruptive.

I will re-open this thread at that time, so everyone knows what worked.
