Proliant 800: Windows 2003 only detects 1 CPU

Hey all,

I have a Proliant 800 with matched dual P3 500 chips which are both detected successfully at POST. After having installed Win2k3 standard edition using a manual Smartstart installation, the OS only detects 1 CPU and the HAL as "Standard PC". I have tried to see if I can change it to Multiprocessor but the only device listed is Standard PC.

Any ideas? Many thanks.

Tom:

You can control the Power Management during installation of W2K3. When the message appears at the bottom of the screen suggesting to press F6 in order to load drivers from a source other than the install media, press the F5 key and make your selection. There may be a way to change it after installation, but I'm not familiar with it.

Make a great day!

I found the option you relate to in setup and have selected MPS Multiprocessor PC as the type... lets wait and see! Will report back.

Many thanks so far!

Re: Proliant 800: Windows 2003 only detects 1 CPU

Hello Tom

Do this:

Click on the HAL "Standard PC" twice to get to the properties and then click on the Driver Tab and click Next>Select the option to display a list of known drivers and hit Next>Select MPS Multiprocessor and install the driver>when done the computer will ask you to restart.
Restart the computer and it should recognize the second CPU.

I'm assuming that only Windows doesn't detect the CPU and that the BIOS already recognize the CPU.

Hope this help
