Can someone please explain to me what CAL liscenses are? I am looking at creating a small network with 1 server, and 10-15 computers within the building. If these computers will access, for example a common share, do they all need a CAL for each computer? Or does this only work if this server for example will run backups on all of these computers? Thanks in advance.

Solution
HI Mark,
A CAL (Client Access License) is the license for a client to access the server. If all machines should be able to contact the server you need the 15 Calls. If you buy SBS there are already 5 calls included. So you need to buy another 10. Calls for SBS are rediculous expensive to my opinion. 5 extra calls are alsmost the same price as SBS itself with the 5 calls.
Be aware that if you want to use Terminal Services for remote clients, that is not supported anymore in SBS2003 if I remember correct. Only the 2 administrative connections are possible.
Have a nice day,
HTH, Ronald
