Re: SBS 2003 My documents Redirection

I may be totally missing what you are saying, but you may need to go to the PC and right click on "My Documents", then click on Properties, then click on Move and tell it to move My Documents to the network drive. II don't remember whether this would move what's already there (you may have to do that manually) but it should then place any new files on the network drive.

Re: SBS 2003 My documents Redirection

Start the Group Policy Managment console and run the Group Policy Results wizard. This will output the group policies applying to the specified pc and user.

Also check the Share and NTFS permissions on the destination drive.

Thx will

The policy is set and the permissions are ok.The user folder is created but the files are not redirected all the folders show 0 bytes of data in them.

One more quick question can i redirect my folders to a maxtor external storage device
MAXTOR SHARED STORAGE II

Re: SBS 2003 My documents Redirection

Is it all PC's or just one?

Sometimes the offline folder gets corrupted.

Try the procedure in this link. But be sure to back up the data first!!!!! Copy to another folder outside of My Docs

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230738

That link shows how to reinitialize offline files. I had a client once with the same problem and after this process it worked...

Re: SBS 2003 My documents Redirection

I see no reason you couldn't redirect to the shared storage, if Windows can see it as a drive then it should work. I'm curious what type of drive and connections it has to the server? Is it a NAS? Or USB? What type of drives and their speed?

These variables of course affect the performance.

Thx will

The Network Drive i have is Maxtor shared storage http://www.maxtorsolutions.com/en/catalog/MSS_II/

check the link and let me know if i can set permissions on this bcoz it just has two types either public folder with access for all or a private with access restrictions.

Re: SBS 2003 My documents Redirection

I took a cursory look at this. I'd hesitate to use it in a business environment as it doesn't seem to really be 'business class', (i.e. the drives are 7200rpm, and I don't think they are scsi or sas) nor do I see that it supports NTFS, which would be necessary for Windows to use it with Active Directory user and group permissions settings. As for the permissions settings it does support, it may be possible to achieve your requirements.
