SNMP Shutdown of W2003 Enterprise
I have a hp 3000xr ups with an SNMP card in it on a network with 5 servers. What do I need to do to get the windows
systems to shutdown gracfully when the ups go onto batteries. I have installed rack and power manager on one of the servers and I have configured the host table setup on the on the ups with 2 of the server IP's. I configured the ups via the serial port.
I just want a simple shutdown sequence so as not to loose data. I thought the UPS would sent a message to the IP in its host table but I cannot find a way to tell windows how to react to such a message. Seems to me if I could do that on all 5 servers on the network it would be the simplest way since the host table on the UPS has 8 possible entries in the table.
Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated. Im off to barns and nobles tonight.

Re: SNMP Shutdown of W2003 Enterprise
Michael:
Since you're having problems, I think the first to check is the firmware (FW) versio of the UPS. If it's below 1.04, you'll need to upgrade to V1.04, then upgrade again to V1.09. If you're at V1.04 or higher, you can go directly to V1.09. There are two models of 3000XR (low and high voltage models). Go here, and select the one you have to be taken to the links for downloading FW upgrades:
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom〈=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=3000xr&submit.x=9&submit.y=4
If problem persists after FW is at V1.09, let us know.
Make a great day!
