swap drives between servers with different array controllers

I have a Proliant DL 380 G3 server with a 5i controller that I would like to take out all of the drives and put them into another DL 380 server that has a 6i controller. Will there be a issue with having different array controllers? There are three arrays (arrayA has 2 x 36gb for RAID1) ArrayB has 2x36gb for RAID 1) and ArrayC has 2x72GB for RAID 5. Please advise

Aaron, it's possible, but not trivial

Re: swap drives between servers with different array controllers

Hi Igor (and others),
I would think that it would be more involved then it sounds. I did call HP server support (level1) and they walked me through the steps saying to move the drives in the same positions and then boot target server with Windows 2000 CD and hit F6 to input 6i drivers, restart, the select recovery windows and that would be it. Please let me know if you see any issues with those steps. THanks

Re: swap drives between servers with different array controllers

Hi,
I think Steven Clementi way is more simple.
I have used Steven suggestion for 6i controller registry and never used windows repair and "F6".
But I think HP support way will work as well.

Thanks for your help on this, glad to know either way will probably work. Thanks again.
