W2K3 not responding during Netbackup (winlogon error)

Hi,

I have been experiencing a continual infrequent issue that causes a W2K3 File and Print server (DL380 with DAS attached) to freeze/hang during or after a backup. We are using Netbackup 4.5 FP7 and McAfee 8.0i (patch 11).

The issue always occurs during or after the backup process in the early hrs of the morning and results in the winlogon process stop responding (ie CTL + ALT + DEL dont work, however can still get ping response)

It is running W2K3 with 7.20 CSP with paired NIC's (set to faul on fault). I have checked the NIC card for any relevant errors and all is ok (according to HP SIM).

Can anyone shed some light on the issue as it is very inconsistant but has been occuring over the last 6 months (even after an upgrade from CSP 7.0 - 7.20)

Jason:

If it's a G4 (you didn't specify), there's a remote possibility this new BIOS could resolve your problem (depending on hardware config).

Hi Roger,

It is a ProLiant DL380 G3 with the following firmware specs:

ROM Version: P29-06/23/2004
Smart Array 5i: 2.58
Smart Array 5312: 2.56 (used to attach external DAS)
All 72GB HDD firmware - HPB3

Anything in the event viewer at the time of the freeze/hang?

Re: W2K3 not responding during Netbackup (winlogon error)

Hi Roger,

Nothing of note in the Event logs.

I will apply the current firmware for the 5i, 5312 and System ROM for the DL380 G3 and see if that resolves it.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Jason
