windows 2003 disk size changes in device manager

Has anyone ever seen this before.
Open device manager. A number of drives are listed with GB size, i.e. 33.71GB. Click refresh and size changes to 33.72GB. Refresh again and size is the same. Exit device manager and re-enter then they change again.
The same issue occurs in diskpart, list disk then rescan. Sizes all change. Exit and restart and it repeats.

ENV: Windows 2003 SP1
QLA-2340 FC HBA
SAN attached storage
~510MB storage device
~33GB storage device

Thanks in advance.

Re: windows 2003 disk size changes in device manager

To work around this issue, use Device Manager to choose an alternative transceiver value. To choose an alternative transceiver value, follow these steps.

Note Using this workaround does not guarantee that the NSC IrDA device will work.1. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Under Infrared Devices, right-click the NSC IrDA device, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. In the Property box, click Infrared Transceiver A.
5. In the Value list, click a different value for Infrared Transceiver A.
6. Click OK to close the NSC IrDA Properties dialog box.
7. Try to use the NSC IrDA device. If the device does not work, repeat this procedure, but select a different transceiver value in step 5.
If this workaround does not work, contact the OEM to obtain an updated basic input/output system (BIOS) for your computer.

Tim,
If you use disk manager, not device manager do you see the same results? When working with servers I never use device manager to look at drives.

Thanks for the info but..

We are working with fibre channel storage interfaces. How does infra-red interfaces and drivers relate ? Did I miss something ?

Re: windows 2003 disk size changes in device manager

This does seem to be a known issue but if a M$ problem it is still undetermined.

Once the devices are initiallize the drive size remains stable.

It is possible that there is some disk geometry that is kept in the registry. Once a refresh or rescan is executed the correct geometry ( or different calculation, i.e. rounding is used ) for estimated disk size.

This is just a theory.

Thanks to those that responded.
