Windows 2k3 reporting wrong free disk space

We have a Win2k3 server, running on a DL380, with IIS 5.0. Disks are 32Gb SCSI mirrored on a 5i controller

It reports only 18mb out of 10Gb free. Trouble is, when you add up the files only 4Gb is used up. I have searched for hidden files, used TreeSize Pro to double check and run chkdsk /f with no luck. Any hints are appreciated

not dumb,

yes tried defrag
chkdsk is showing 18mb free as well.
looked for Alternate Data streams - nada
looked for bad folder links - nope
looked at corrupt mft - not that either

Well did try it on an other serveur this drive, i think you may have a hardware trouble, between the raid and the hard drive.

Hello!
i think is something wrong into RAID configuration or on the controller.

Re: Windows 2k3 reporting wrong free disk space

hardware problem is possible, however I have two arrays on this controller, nothing wrong with Array B, also, two logical drives on Array A and the 2nd one is ok too.

Checked the settings, they are good.

thanks guys

Re: Windows 2k3 reporting wrong free disk space

Go to the new Sysinternals site (MS)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/default.mspx
and download rootkitrevealer (under security).

You can also download some of the file and directory based tools to see if there are filesystem problems.

Rob,
Make sure Volume Shadow Copy Service is disabled (Right-click the volume , then select Properties to open the configuration window. Click the Shadow Copies tab....)

BTW:
>>We have a Win2k3 server, running on a DL380, with IIS 5.0.

windows 2003 works with IIS 6, not IIS 5

Thanks Igor, VSC is running, however not on that drive, and it is also saving to a separate drive, is there something else about VSC that would caus this behavior?

I think no, if you sure that VSC saved to separate drive.
