Re: windows cluster
To install MSCS you have to, at least, add servers to domain. Server for cluster node must be domain member or domain controller.

Re: windows cluster
You must use a domain account to start the cluster services, so, a domain controller is requiered. You can use your cluster members as domain controllers but is not recommended.
For a all the details, see the attached documentation.

Re: windows cluster
you need a domain of some kind, not necessarily an active directory. i ran a 2000 cluster in a NT 4 domain for years while my company stalled on AD upgrades.
if you have a spare workstation, an NT 4 server license, you might want to set it up as a domain controller for your cluster servers to use privately

There have been Innumerable people who have helped me. Of course, I've managed to piss most of them off.
