Windows Server 2003 ntbackup errors
I have two production dl380 g3's running server 2003 (they're mirrors of each other). On both machines, when I use ntbackup to backup one logical volume to another (source and target on the same smart array 5i+) the backup generally succeeds but almost always complains that some of the input files are corrupted (some tens of files out of thousands, and different files from backup to backup) and says they will not restore correctly. When I examine the suspect files by hand, I see no errors or problems. CHKDSK finds no filesystem problems and no hardware events are logged. There are two unusual factors that may be significant: there's no battery backed write cache on the 5i+, and there's a 3rd party scsi card installed(LSI 20320) but not involved in the backup. I recently installed a hotfix for the VSS (shadow copy code) but nothing changed. Anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks in advance.

I'd be inclined to try it. While you're there get PSP 7.1 if you haven't already installed that, plus anything else there (esp. storage-related) that's newer than yours.
Make a great day!

Re: Windows Server 2003 ntbackup errors
Thanks for your suggestion. When I looked at that hotfix, it seemed to indicate that it fixed write errors to tape. My problem is read errors from the smart array 5i. Do you know if this fix is appropriate to this problem? Thanks.

Re: Windows Server 2003 ntbackup errors
I take it the BIOS didn't help. Try the latest SA5i firmware and driver:

Re: Windows Server 2003 ntbackup errors
I'm experiencing a problem with a ML350 G4 server and a DAT72. Ntbackup doesn't work properly. I get an error message 'invalid command". I saw the fix 817688 from Microsoft, but the link Miura gives concern only english versions of Windows (I tried it also).
I search the same thing in french. I tried to contact Microsoft, but they send me a fix that doesn't work (it replies "programme trop grand pour tenir en memoire" eg. "program too big to take in memory") and they continue to search...
Do you know where can I find the french version of this fix :

Thanks

Re: Windows Server 2003 ntbackup errors
I was able to find a French translation of the KB article, but that's all. There doesn't seem to be a French version of the file?
Here's the article link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817688/fr
You could try contacting Microsoft France for an answer:

Make a great day!
