6795 and Hitachi 9570

We are installing a Hitachi 9570 and our N4000 has an A6795 fiber card.

Our basic connectity looks good, and we can see the 3 LUNs we have created in ioscan, but when you look at them through SAM, only one shows up.

I can create a volume group using the first LUN (that shows uo in SAM), but not the other 2. From the command line in get an error from vgcreate of "not a character device".

Any ideas?

After the ioscan, did you do an insf?

If not, run:

insf -e

from a command-line, and then try your vgcreate again. I think you didn't create the device files, or they didn't get created properly.

Please note that 3rd party hardware does not always conform for HP's requirements for SAM, and may not work with SAM. (for that matter, some HP hardware doesn't work real well, either!) Use the command-line for the best experience.

Good luck,

Re: 6795 and Hitachi 9570

You're right, SAM won't work at all with it. From command line I found I had to create the vg folder under /dev, then use mknod on it before I could create the volume group. Of course once the vg's are created, SAM and command line both work normally will work to create lv's.

It would have helped if Hitachi's HP-UX documentation we're actually for HP-UX. Instead it looked like they copied their SUN docs and changed the title.

Re: 6795 and Hitachi 9570

is the HDS 9570 not the exact same thing as a XP? Not sure if it is the 128/256/512/1024...

Did HP add functionality to the HDS to make it more HP-UX friendly, or are they fundamentally the same thing... just wondering, cause then you could use the XP HP-UX manuals for reference ;)

No the 9570 is not the same product as the XP - the 9900 series is. The 9500 series is their midrange product.
