microcode update failed on XP512
We have a XP512 running microcode 01.17.78.
We started with the microcode upgrade. During microcode update get a message that the firmware level was incompatible.
There is a firmware mismatch on CHA-1P and CHA-2V. These boards (2GB fibre channel)are on
revision level 01.50.00 instead of 01.17.78.
Thuesday 24/6: HP Started first with a dummy replacement from CHA-1P after contact with XP-TAC. But the Board blocked complete instead of flashing the right microcode. Tried dummy replace again, but same result.
Contacted TAC and the solution is to replace it with a new board.
Microcode flash is going ok, level 01.17.78 is now on CHA-1P.
Wednesday 25/6: HP Started with the dummy replacement from CHA-2V. This also failed. So replaced it with the the new board, but instead of flashing the microcode it blocked again.
HP Ordered a new PCB and replaced CHA-2V again with this board, but still the same.
Has anyone a idee of whats going on here.
HP is still pin-pointing the problem but they can't solve it...

Re: microcode update failed on XP512
1. Microcode upgrade is usually from low to higher version.
2. Before upgrading Microcode, you must check the Microcode version on XP512 in both Flash and Local Memory. Also, check the mode (161 ON/OFF) of XP512.
3. How did the 2G boards were added to XP512? Who did the installation? The post installation tasks include the check of Microcode!!!
4. I suggest that you UNINSTALL 2G board, check the XP512 status and then install the latest Microcode. After doing the above, then INSTALL the 2G board.
5. You can also try MP Install for installing MICROCODE for a particular processor(s).
6. If all failes, please take a dump and send it to support centre.
Please check and review the above steps with support personal before implementing.
