Solaris 10 XP1024 multipathing

We have recently purchased an EVA8100 to go along side our xp1024. We recently started using Solaris 10 5/08. It seems that the native solaris multipathing does not work properly with our 1024 but it seems to work fine with our EVA. With multipathing enabled via "stmsboot" attached luns from the EVA show up as one disk in "format" while any luns attached from our xp1024 show up as 2 separate disks.

I've found a Doc at HP that describes how to configure specifically for the 1024 with Solaris multipathing but its not working. I made sure to add the correct number of spaces in /kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf Sun is suggesting that we set mode 244 on the 1024:

"verify that Mode 244 is enabled on the HP array this is enabled by default on newer arrays"

Can anybody shed some light on this ? Thanks in advance.

Jack

Re: Solaris 10 XP1024 multipathing

Hi,
can you list the hbas in your servers? are they sparc or x64/x86/amd64?

yes
when using the native mpxio multipathing drivers

in solaris sparc

you need xp system option 244,
and also patches or later required in addition to the HBA specific drivers:
119130-16
119470-03
118833-03
119254-14
119374-13
119974-03
120182-02
120222-07
120346

in solaris x64/x86/amd64
119131-16
119347-06
118855-19
119975-03
120183-02
120223-11
120347-04

and the
recommended xp1024 firmware is 21.14.40.00/00
minimum xp1024 firmware is 21.14.14.00/00
the pain is one part of the reality

Re: Solaris 10 XP1024 multipathing

Thanks. We are on Sparc T2000. HBAs are Sun provided Emulex. Here is output from "prtdiag":
SUNW,emlxs-pci10df,fc20LPe11000-S

Sounds like we do need to set mode 244. Anybody know if we are going to have to bring down the whole 1024 to do this?

Re: Solaris 10 XP1024 multipathing

seems that the only hosts that need to be offline for this change to be made are the Solaris hosts with MPxIO
