HPE Nimble Storage dHCI wins a Best of VMworld recognition
HPE Nimble Storage dHCI was chosen as a Best of VMworld in the category of Virtualization, Cloud Infrastructure, and DevOps.
Wow - I didn't see that coming! What an honor for HPE to be selected by the judges as an award winner. I have only seen a quote from the judges but I started thinking why did they and TechTarget pick HPE Nimble Storage dHCI as a Best of VMworld winner. I think the judges saw several things:
- The value that our HCI 2.0 focus has driven us to eliminate the trade-offs made with traditional HCI. (Note: I have my latest Chalk Talk below and it explains this in more detail).
- The easy public cloud on-ramp with dHCI for either running in the cloud with HPE Cloud Volumes Block or backup to the public cloud with HPE Cloud Volumes Backup. (See my blog post with lots of information around Cloud Volumes Backup including a deep dive podcast).
- "Nimble dHCI turns your current servers into an enterprise [hyper-converged infrastructure] solution, including automation and single-pane-of-glass management," is what the judges were quoted as as saying - all true!
Hot off the press Chalk Talk
So here's my Chalk Talk - I had published this yesterday and 2 hours later learned about the VMworld Best of Show award so quickly added a "breaking news" to the Chalk Talk and published it.
Reshaping the HCI landscape
And great timing to keep the dHCI discussion going here. Sandeep Singh, VP HPE Storage Marketing did a two part series our HPE Newsroom blog talking about what we're doing to reshape the HCI landscape. Here are some summary points of those articles and links so you can read them:
Part 1 - HPE reshapes the HCI Landscape: Breaking away from competition
- HPE has outpaced the industry as shown in the latest IDC Hyperconverged Systems market share data. HPE grew 53.5% YoY.
- Sandeep mentioned our commitment to innovation and delivering great outcomes for our customers and said, "outcomes that are perfectly captured in this article from Steve Burke at CRN." The CRN article focuses on "the battle" between HPE, Dell, and Nutanix and talks a lot about the numbers from the IDC market share data.
- There's no one size fits all. Our strategy is to bring the right solution to customers whether HPE SimpliVity, vSAN Ready Nodes on HPE servers or other solutions. And of course HPE Nimble Storage dHCI, which Sandeep focused on in part 2.
Part 2 - HPE reshapes the HCI landscape: Taking HCI further
- Sandeep starts the article out reiterating our strategy - to give our customers the right HCI solution for their use case. He gives an analogy of different kinds of SUVs. Read the article to get the whole story there but his summary is with HPE, you'll get the right HCI solution.
- He discusses how Gartner recognizes dHCI on the "Hype Cycle for Compute infrastructure" and concludes that dHCI "extends HCI into business-critical apps and mixed-workloads" and overcoming the "architectural limitations of traditional HCI for demanding applications and larger scale environments."
- Importantly, HPE reported 112% YoY growth in Nimble Storage dHCI.
Be sure to check out both parts of Sandeep's articles to get the full story!
