Introducing: True hybrid cloud for containers

HPE-hybrid cloud-HPEDiscover-blog.jpgCIOs are recognizing that they need to build a hybrid cloud to unlock the agility and innovation across all clouds, spanning on-premises and public cloud. And, hybrid clouds need to be optimized for containers to better enable developers to build next-generation, mission-critical applications.

According to Gartner, by 2022, more than 75% of global organizations will be running containerized applications in production, which is a significant increase from fewer than 30% today. And, more than 50% of containerized workloads will span across hybrid environments, up from less than 20% today.

The challenge facing IT is how to support this transformation? On-premises and public cloud are two different worlds and bridging them is hard. Skills gaps pose a real barrier. And resources remain tied up in running, not innovating.

What if?

What if it were possible to bridge on-premises and public cloud so your data and applications could move more easily across clouds? And do so, not only for todayโ€™s stateless container applications, but also tomorrowโ€™s stateful container applications such as databases where data persistence matters. And, deliver the flexibility to use multi-cloud. You would have a true hybrid cloud.

What if you could overcome skills gaps with cloud expertise? Your business could transform and move faster.

Two leaders join forces to turn what ifโ€™s into what's next

HPE, a hybrid cloud, edge and services leader with heritage in mission-critical enterprise workloads, and Google Cloud, a public cloud leader with heritage in containers, are joining forces with a strategic partnership to provide our joint customers with hybrid cloud solutions. Building on the HPE Validated Designs that were announced in April 2019, we are unveiling a collaboration to deliver a true hybrid cloud for containers โ€“ with choice for as-a-service delivery. In addition, HPE will offer advisory and professional services to accelerate hybrid cloud adoption.

A true hybrid cloud โ€“ the first of its kind!

The true hybrid cloud solution features Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos in combination with HPEโ€™s on-premises infrastructure, HPE Cloud Data Services, and HPE GreenLake.

The combined offering brings together Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos with HPE ProLiant and HPE Nimble Storage on-premises. And, coming in Q3FY19, HPE Cloud Volumes to provide a storage service for Google Cloud Platform and other public clouds. In addition, HPE plans to offer HPE GreenLake for Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos to provide the entire hybrid cloud as-a-service.

Itโ€™s the first of its kind! This true hybrid cloud solution brings unique value to IT with:

  • Bi-directional data mobility โ€“ HPE Nimble Storage and HPE Cloud Volumes form the data plane that delivers data mobility and consistent data services between on-premises and cloud, providing the foundation for application workload mobility.
  • Application workload mobility โ€“ Leveraging Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos, customers can seamlessly move container-based application workloads across on-premises and multi-cloud environments to optimize performance and deliver business value.
  • Multi-cloud flexibility โ€“ HPE Cloud Volumes and Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos allow businesses to choose the cloud environment that works best for the workload โ€“ including deployments across Google Cloud or other public clouds or on-premises with HPE ProLiant and HPE Nimble. HPE Cloud Volumes connects to multi-cloud compute without requiring data migration or the burden of egress fees, making multi-cloud agility and innovation possible.
  • Unified hybrid management โ€“ Leveraging Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos, customers can get a unified and consistent view of their applications and workloads regardless of where they reside
  • As a service โ€“ HPE GreenLake will bring hybrid cloud with Google Cloudโ€™s Anthos as a service with pay as you go consumption.

Hybrid use cases deliver freedom to innovate

True hybrid cloud unlocks key hybrid use cases, including:

  • Modernize applications in place โ€“ Convert existing applications into container-based deployments.
  • Hybrid CI/CD โ€“ Empower developers with the agility to develop in the cloud and deploy production applications on premises or vice versa.
  • Hybrid disaster recovery โ€“ Run production apps on premises, protect to the cloud and recover in the cloud.
  • Multi-cloud production โ€“ Gain the flexibility to run applications in multiple clouds.

Accelerating your hybrid journey

As part of the agreement, HPE will be able to offer the joint hybrid cloud solution via HPE GreenLake to provide a hybrid cloud as a service. HPE GreenLake managed services incorporates capacity planning, metering, resource planning, software change control, and hardware and software support โ€“ all delivered as-a-service on a pay-per-use basis.

In addition, HPE Pointnext Services cloud advisors, bolstered by expertise from the acquisitions of Cloud Technology Partners and RedPixie, will provide cloud consulting, design, and operational services to help customers adopt, deploy, and optimize hybrid cloud for containers.

Weโ€™re just getting started

Weโ€™re super excited about our partnership with Google Cloud! Early customer interest has been phenomenal across several verticals, including financial services, retail, and manufacturing. Weโ€™re just getting started and weโ€™re looking forward to helping you embrace the hybrid cloud.
