SOLUTION: the freaking SFPs were incorrect. We had AJ716A (Series-A), but since we have Brocade SAN switches on the C7000 the correct kind should had been: AJ716B (Series-B). Sure enough, as soon as the SFPs were replaced, we did not see that aweful "mount Fail: (9, none)".

I really wish that HPE would have a way to verify the type of SFP you have from the OA or blade iLO.
