K210 memory expansion limit?

I read in the owner's manual that my K210's single cpu is limited to 512 Mb of memory which is what it has. Do you have to add more cpus to access more memory? There are lots of memory slots free (only 4 boards installed). Can the K210 be field upgraded or is this a CE only job?

Your K210 actually has a maximum RAM amount of 2GB. I dont think the amount of CPU's has any effect on this as memory is addressed by the kernel. You have 16 slots on your memory carrier board. As long as you use K class compatible RAM and you install in pairs you can go up to 2GB (using 128MB DIMMs).

I think you are correct. The K210 can take up to 2GB RAM and 4 processors. What I don't know for sure is if you'd need to add one more processor to be able to utilize the full 2GB or not. I think so, because the manual just says >1 SPU is required for 8GB RAM, and we've got several K's that exceed 512M per processor.

The actual upgrade is not overly tough. If you've got a choice, get HP to do the processor addition, as they can be touchy.

Memory upgrade is a snap, just install the SIMMs in pairs, largest first.

The K-210 will actually address 4Gb of RAM (using 256Mb modules), however I don't think this is supported. Actually, I don't think the K200 and K210 are actually supported anymore.
The HP part number for the 256Mb modules is A3737-60001, and the DataRAM part number is 69211. I don't think anyone is selling the DRAM's (new anymore), so you would have to go to EBay or a Reseller to get them.
