Looking for keylogger

To be able to test out interactive programs in batch, we'd like to have a program that can intercept the user's keystrokes and dump them to a file - real-time - so later on, we'd use this file as SYS$INPUT to run our tests.

We could of course use recording mechansisms if present, but this is inpractical since some keys will not be stored but interpreted or translated AFTER interception.
So we prefer to record the keystrokes on VMS - and access is normally via TELNET sessions.

Does anyone know of a program? It's no porblem if this requires privileges (it's a development machine); If free, or very low cost, that would strongly be preferred ;-)

Re: Looking for keylogger

Once upon a time there was the SUPERVISOR series of programs for the VAX, including the PHOTO program doing that. (See Hunter Goatelys server http://www.process.com/openvms ). But has not been ported to Alpha.

A commercial one (I have not used it) I know of is Raxcos "OpenVMS Support Suite", see their page at

Re: Looking for keylogger

Willem,

check SYS$EXAMPLES:ALPHA_LOGGER.C (mentions the PHOTO utility as a reference).

DEC Test Manager (DTM) - part of DECset - seems to be another possible choice.

PowerTerm can also record and run scripts.

We also use Contrl, which even has assist where you can type.

Re: Looking for keylogger

A few years ago we used VTEST by Cyrano, but their web-site seems to be unavailable now. Good but not cheap.

There are probably some Telnet proxy programs. I think there are some Perl Telnet modules that might help.

Re: Looking for keylogger

DTM does exactly that and is designed for regression testing but it costs.
