On paper, the DL585G2 looks better, hands down.
Direct CPU-memory access, faster memory, faster I/O, more internal drives, etc. Not to mention, it will be forward compatible with the new quad-core cpus when they come out.
I just need a second pair of eyes/brain to tell me that buying a new DL585G2 is the better option over upgrading the DL760G2.
And before anyone else suggests it: Yes, I have found used 4 processor kits online for much less. However, the brass are not very keen on using used equipment. They seem content with the $25-$30k cost of increasing system capacity.

Re: DL760G2 vs DL585G2?
compare how you use it, all hot plug options, expansion options, PCI slots, Memory, bus split, if you don't use and you don't have any future needs in it, go with 585 or equal. DL760 designed to take internal workload and communicate with more than 2 external storage units or est.

Re: DL760G2 vs DL585G2?
Has anyone purchased a DL585G2 yet? I've only worked with the G1. Great server, I can only assume the G2 is even better.

SolutionBased on that I would go with the DL585 G2, if you do not need hot plug/raid memory or hot plug PCI.
performance/price you cannot beat the 585 G2 in this case. However, you might want to look at the 580 G4. What we have seen so far in benchmarks is that the 580 G4 will have a slight lead on the 585 G2. No real world experience yet though.

Re: DL760G2 vs DL585G2?
That's exactly what I was hoping someone would be able to tell me. I think we'll go with the 585G2 and still have upgradability when the quad-cores come out.
Thanks again.
