well there is not reference for Dual-Core CPUs supported by this server but there is new capability called
"dual processor capability" that according with some sources it's similar
check this

Well, the system supports 2 CPU's but that doesn't necessary mean that it would support dual-core CPU's directly; has anyone tried it out or would the box need BIOS-update to support this?

Actually reviewing the spec for the server, it does not support dual core processor, it just support dual processor.
Please review this link, it is the spec for the server and if dual core does not appear there is because it is not supported
