Intelligent Provisioning 1.60 breaks 2008 R2 install (will not accept product key during setup)
So I've got a pair of DL380p Gen8 servers here that are brand new from the factory (built about 3 weeks ago). The both came with Intelligent Provisioning 1.50. On the first one, I was able to install 2008R2 using IP 1.50. Before using IP to install 2008R2 on the 2nd one, I upgraded IP to 1.60. After the GUI for Windows setup starts, it fails on the autounattend.xml that IP 1.60 generates on the ProductKey.
Obviously I thought I had done something wrong, so I started over - a couple of times. After the setup fails it drops you back to a command prompt in WinPE. I even messed with the unattend file and relaunched setup from WinPE - no dice. I changed OS versions (from 2008R2 Std to Enterprise) and the same error happens.
After doing some snooping around, I found that HP replaces setup.exe from the 2008R2 install with the setup.exe from what appears to be 2012 version. The version number of setup.exe for 2008R2 is 6.1.7601.17514 (this is from the volume licensing media labelled SW_DVD5_Windows_Svr_DC_EE_SE_Web_2008_R2_64Bit_English_w_SP1_MLF_X17-22580.iso). The version number that gets installed after using IP 1.60 has started the setup is 6.2.9200.20773, which is dated 2013.07.12 and signed by Microsoft.
After performing some additional snooping, I found that IP 1.60 includes a "hotfixes" folder (that comes from the file 453278.7z on the IP 1.60 media). This hotfixes folder contains approximatley 56 files as shwon below.

Eventually I rolled IP 1.60 back to 1.50 on this one server and problem goes away.
Anyways - just a heads up that 1.60 has issues - or atleast with 2008 R2 volume licensing media. I'm going the play with it further once I get these two servers deployed for the customer. I've got a pair of DL385p Gen8 servers here in my lab that I can trash to test with once I get some time.

Re: Intelligent Provisioning 1.60 breaks 2008 R2 install (will not accept product key during setup)
From the Intelligent Provisioning 1.60 Release Notes:
Windows-specific issues
тАв The Volume License installation does not complete when you use the Recommended installation
method to install Windows 2008 R2. The following error message is displayed during installation,
тАЬWindows cannot read the <ProductKey> setting from the unattend answer file.тАЭ
Suggested action: Use the Manual installation method for Windows 2008 R2 if you encounter
this error. Not all Volume License media present this problem.

Re: Intelligent Provisioning 1.60 breaks 2008 R2 install (will not accept product key during setup)
One of my customers had this issue with 3 BL460c Gen8 servers. Thanks to your post I downgraded IP to 1.50 and got them up and running. Thanks for that!
Do you think this issue will be fixed in another release or does the fact that it's mentioned as an issue in the release notes for 1.60 mean that customers who have this issue are going to have to use the suggested action. My customer is faced with the prospect of having to downgrade IP to 1.50 on all their new servers so that the automated scripts continue to work.
Thanks.

You saved me from pulling all my hair out. What's left of it, that is. Downgrading to 1.5 helped. Thank you,

Thanks for the post here, i"m experiencing the same thing and going to give 1.50 a try.
Is anyone else unable to download the 1.50 version at this time? I'm experiencing dead links all over the HP page for previous firmware versions.

Re: Intelligent Provisioning 1.60 breaks 2008 R2 install (will not accept product key during setup)
I am experiencing a same problem HP intelligent provisioning v1.60 for DL380P G8 for installation of windows 2008-r2-x64. Windows Setup pop-up error message (тАЬWindows cannot read the <ProductKey> setting from unattended answer fileтАЭ). To resolve the issues, downgraded to the HP IP to v1.40, cold rebooted the server, then able to install windows 2008r2 without any issues.

Proliant ML310e G8 v2, just unpacked.
I tried to install 2008R2 standard free 180days trial as iso from usb via F10 Intelligent Provisioning and chose upgrade firmware. After end of upgrade I received a fast and long list of unreadable messages wich were followed by a hardware check. The check never ended.
No product keys have been involved.
